Half Marathon & Jazz Festival - 24.6.2007

This morning I did the Scotiabank Vancouver Half Marathon, it took me 1hour and 42minutes to complete the 21km. Definately less painfull than the full marathon which I did a few weeks ago.

the course started of at UBC and then to Stanley Park...it was raining during the run so we all got soaked to the skin!

in the afternoon I met with a friend in downtown and we went together to Gastown where the Vancouver International Jazz Festival is taking place.

We just said there on a patio and had a drink while we listened to some awesome Jazz music

Viktor, also a guy from Germany who is here for work and travel...the umbrella is for the rain...another rainy sunday with a little bit of sun here and there

F U S E "How late will you stay up for art?" - 22.6.2007

On select Fridays, the Vancouver Art Gallery transforms into THE place for art, music and live performance in the city. Since its inception in July 2005, thousands of Fuse-goers have converged at the Gallery for this unique adult event. Live performances in the Gallery spaces, DJs, eclectic Gallery tours and unexpected surprises have made Fuse Vancouver's favourite see-and-be-seen event. (http://www.vanartgallery.bc.ca/events_and_programs/fuse.html)

I went to this FUSE event on Friday evening with some friends of mine

The Lions - 14.6.2007

Since I came to Vancouver in August 2005 I dreamed of hiking up to the Lions. But I couldn´t find anybody to come with me...so I always postponed it...well and now my time is running out...hehe so I just did it by myself.
I started in Lions Bay which is a small village along the Sea to Sky Highway to Whistler

view of Howe Sound from the trail up to the Lions

I expected to have to hike thorugh some snow...but that it would be that much really suprised me...still more tha a metre snow up there which didn´t make the already tough hike any easier for me

yeah you can see I wasn´t too pleased about all the clouds either...haha just kidding! they made for a nice spectacular scenery.
From here up to the Lions I had to cross huge and steep snowfields...half of the time I was using my hands and feet to get up instead of sliding back down after every step. it´s definitely a more pleasant trail in the summer when the snow is gone...

while the view to the west was blocked by clouds...

...the view south was good, for a few minutes I could see Capilano Lake and behind the lake is Vancouver

West Lion (1646m)

and East Lion (1599m) The Lions are two left over Vulcano Cones which you can see from Vancouver

the night we spent at my friends place in Sidney which is just outside of Victoria

Mr. Fox, he is 92 years old

Cathedral Grove close to Alberni, here we stand in front of a tree that is 800 years old
after about 350km and 5 hours later we arrived in Tofino, it´s a very remote place right at the pacific ocean...we felt like we stand at the end of the world!
later in the evening Lan and me went out for a long walk through Tofino

Tofino Trip - 7.-10.6.2007 - Day 3

on saturday we had lots of rain and a storm warning...that´s how long beach looks like in the rain.

we decided to go for a little hike in Ucluelet on the Wild Pacific Trail

and it was worth it to get wet and face the storm! awesome scenery with breathtaking views of the waves crashing into the cliffs
