A big fat WELCOME to my parents! - 28.5.2007

A dream for my parents and me finally became true...they made it to visit me, their son, here in Vancouver! They already arrived here last night and today they got to know my coworkers and they also had the chance to check out Vancouver a little bit. After work I took them down to Kits Beach just to check out the sunset and talk a little bit...they still have a jetlag so we went home early after the sun was gone.....

Sieglinde (my mum) and Ralf (my dad)

every time nice...westoast sunset at Kits Beach...

Galiano Island - 20.-21.5.2007 Day 1

Long weekend...Monday was Queen Victoria Day so we had a long weekend which is always good for a camping trip. We chose Galiano Island, that´s one of the Gulf Islands that are between Vancouver Island and the mainland. With me went Eko, Mwemba and Dimitri.

Dimitri sang us in the right mood....

almost there, we had to leave the ferry

oh yeah I almost forgot to mention it was kind of rainy on sunday...so we used all the tarps that we brought to protect us from the rain...we got wet anyways!

after we hiked the 10km from Sturdies Bay to Montague Harbour Provincial Marine Park we sat down on the beach an relaxed for a while...even the rain stoped once we arrived there

yeah and we even got a little sunset...no sun the whole day but a sunset in the end...

Galiano Island - 20.-21.5.2007 Day 2

it was raining the whole night...but it stoped in the morning and the birds were singing when we woke up! here is our campsite in the middle of the woods.

after we got up we packed our stuff and headed straight to the beach...where I also went swimming...I couldn´t resist!

yeah the westcoast is so awesome! I can´t get enough from it...

here we are me (germany), Eko (indonesia) , Mwemba (zambia) and Dimitri (germany)....haha people looked at us with our big bagpacks and guitar

at the ferry terminal we found a place that sells german-indonesian food...what a mix, eh?! so we checked out that food...and sure we had the indonesian one...mwemba didn´t really fall in love with it though...

and me? oh yeah I love it! hot and spicy.

on our way back we had to go to vancouver island first because the ferry straight back to the mainland was too full...so we had to take the detour to swartz bay where we had to wait another 2 hours to get a space on the ferry. the good thing was because of that we could enjoy a sweet sunset on the water!

Portland Roadtrip 10.-14.5.2007 - Day 1

Another roadtrip....the last one was already way too long ago...so I took the chane to go with another MCC Volunteer from Calgary down to Portland, Oregon in the US.
We rented a car here in Vancouver and started driving down to the US on Thursday morning.
At the Us border we had to wait for 40 minutes in traffic line up until they let us in...

once we were in the US nothing could keep us back to go to Seattle and check out the city and it´s people. Here you can see my travel partner Mandy from Thailand, she currently volunteers in Calgary, Alberta.

we checked out downtown Seattle for a few hours

Pike Market - Public Market Center

first Starbucks ever

in the late afternoon we went back to the highway and headed southwest towards the Washington coast.
Here is Mount Rainier in the background...
Aberdeen, finally we arrive at the Pacific...
we decied to ckeck out Westport but we didn´t like the campsites there...so we just kept on driving down the coast until we arrived Grayland where we stayed in Grayland Beach State Park for the night.

little supper...chinese noodle soup!

Portland Roadtrip 10.-14.5.2007 - Day 2

I started the day with a run along the Grayland Beach, Washington and after that we had a bath in the ocean...still little cold but refreshing!

and after we had breakfast it was time for the road again....

short picture break in Raymond, Washington

Long Beach, Washington. This is the skeleton of a Gray Whale

Lunch break in the old town Astoria, it´s located at the end of the Columbia River which divides the two states Washington and Oregon.

in Astoria, Oregon we stoped for some Fish and Chips and just checked out the city for a while

Once we got to Oregon the coast got more rocky.
Little viewpoint along the highway, on the picture you can see Nehalem Beach where we also stayed for the night.
Nehalem Beach, Oregon

these americans are so scared of a Tsunami...escape route signs all over the highway and signs that warn you....
on the way to the beach to check out the sunset
and here it is...sweet sunset at the Oregon Coast!
